Anxiety affects how we feel in our body and thoughts that we have in our mind. It is often triggered by stress in our lives. People suffering from Anxiety will tend to feel fearful in situations that majority of people would not feel fearful. Anxiety can be as mild as a phobia to a certain thing such as spiders, flying or elevators and can be as major as a fear of not being able to leave your house or the fear that you are dying from an illness that has not been identified.

If you have been through a traumatic event in your life, this may be an accident or abuse; you may be suffering with a type of Anxiety known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This disorder will make you feel the need to avoid certain situations and will cause flashbacks and nightmares of the event that occurred.

If you do have anxiety symptoms you will be experiencing can include:

  • Tense muscles
  • Trembling
  • Churning stomach
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Backache
  • Heart palpitations
  • Numbness or “pins and needles” in arms, hands or legs
  • Sweating/flushing

It is easy to mistake symptoms of anxiety for physical illness and become worried that you might be suffering a heart attack or stroke. This of course increases anxiety.

At The Couch Therapy Group we can help you reduce this anxiety in your life by teaching you coping strategies and by challenging the thinking patterns that are causing these nervous thoughts and feelings.
